Mouthwatering Meal at CUT Steakhouse & Urban Grill
Posted by: Kristen Pickett
Not long ago, I received a gift certificate for CUT Steakhouse & Urban Grill - certainly not cheap, it's the kind of resto that I was saving for a very special occasion. With my GC in tow, I knew that I could spend without a care in the world (relatively), which just enhanced the vibe of Marie-Antoinettish indulgence. Now the best part about this meal was that I invited my best foodie friend and told her NOTHING about the night! I had so much fun taunting her! For weeks I told her how amazing the mystery was going to be. The...

An Impromptu Dinner at Fid Resto
Posted by: Kristen Pickett
A while back, a friend and I stopped in to Fid Resto for an impromptu dinner. We were actually on our way to get some sushi when we walked past Dresden Row and quickly changed our plans. It was a chilly night and the atmosphere inside was warm and inviting. It took us a while to make our decisions (well, me really) so we put in an order in for some apps while I poured over the menu. My friend had the traditional French soup served with rouille and Mozzarella cheese. It was an interesting concoction, and once I was...

Flora and Finnigan's Big Adventure
Posted by: Brigid McWhirter
If you’ve strolled through the Halifax Public Gardens, you’ve probably noticed its two residents - a pair of Toulouse geese named Flora and Finnigan. That time of year has rolled around when the Gardens closes its gates until spring and plants of all sorts take a little break from their bursts of colour and lush green leaves, but what happens to Flo and Finn? These lucky ducks - er, geese - take a winter vacation on Nova Scotia’s lovely Eastern Shore. The Hope for Wildlife Society, a wildlife rehabilitation and education centre, is located in Seaforth, NS and will be the...

Tasty Indian Fare at the Taj Mahal
Posted by: Kristen Pickett
I love Indian food. There’s just something so satisfying about white rice soaking up a warm, earthy sauce flavoured with baking spices like cinnamon and cardamom and with a bit of heat from some chilies. I also love a good piece of naan bread to sop up the often rich and creamy sauces. At about 6:30pm, we made our way down to Taj Mahal, and after MUCH consideration my friend finally made his decision. Normally it’s me in this predicament, so I was quite happy to sit back and gloat in my being prepared – for once. Another thing that I...
